Josiah recently found these, and they have been a constant favorite. He makes everyone try them on, and then he puts them on and will leave them on for at least 15 minutes. Its probably a good thing since both Chad and I wear glasses, he will probably end up with a real pair some day.

Just another surprise

We have a rule in our house, if Elizabeth is being quiet, she is probably doing something that she shouldn't. She has never proved me wrong. While changing the laundry the other day I found some of her art work. It's made of two strips of toilet paper, and two flushable wipes with a hand towel. She is a mixed medium artist. I wonder if we could sell some prints??

Seattle

As some of you know, we recently got back from Seattle. We kinda flew out last minute to Chad's best friend from high school's wedding. It was great to see a part of the country we had never been to. Everyone there was friendly and finding our way was also interesting, but we definitely have memories to last a life time. Thanks to everyone who helped watch Elizabeth and Josiah so we could go! The first night we were there, on the way to Brent's house for the rehearsal dinner.

Ok, evidently I can't get my pictures to move, so the first section of pictures are just scenic pictures. The one of Chad and I was taken by a lake next to the interstate on our way back from church Sunday morning. The market ones are all from Pike Place Market, I just have to say that if I could've taken some of the flowers back on the plane, I would have. You got a huge bouquet for $15. We did not get to see the fish throwers since it was Labor Day and they were the only stall that was closed. We did get to try the fried doughnuts. Jaarsma's are better. Then there are the wedding photos, and the jam table, aka the wedding favors. The food was fantastic, but the cheesecake (instead of wedding cake) was out of this world. Brent made all the cheesecakes, and we have already attempted to duplicate his recipe, but we failed. We had a great time visiting Brent and his new bride Katie. Thanks for the invite!!

Apple Bars

So after the applesauce making disaster, I got permission from our lovely dermatologist neighbor to pick her apples. I sent Chad and Elizabeth to pick 6, and only 6, apples. I thought I would try making a small batch of applesauce with these to see if it was truly the apples, or just me. Well, after much deliberation, I couldn't bring myself to try the sauce again. My favorite website is http://www.allrecipes.com/ and they always have the recipe of the day posted on the home page. Well today's recipe is Apple bars. They looked good so we gave them a try. They are fantastic, and only use about a 1/2 to one cup diced apples. I say that because I left out the nuts and increased the apples. Elizabeth was kind enough to help me with the pampered chef gadget, and Josiah was kind enough to stop riding the dog long enough for me to get these in the oven before lunch. Making Applesauce

So Chad brought home a large bag of apples from work. He said that there are trees on the school districts property, and that they had already been picked, and were looking for a home. Well since my mom and sister Deanne have been making killer applesauce for years, and my mom has ruined me for eating the store brand stuff, I thought here was my golden opportunity. The problem came when after getting careful instructions from my mom, I got to work and realized that these apples were smaller than regular tree apples. Well, I figured apples were apples and kept going. I did however stop to email Chad to see if any of his co-workers knew what type of apples they were. Mid way through the peeling/coring/slicing (thanks pampered chef gadget, I knew I would put you to use someday!) Chad replies "the consensus is that they are crab apples" Uh Oh. I thought I remembered something about crab apples not being easy to work with. But, I figured I could make it work and kept going, nothing a little extra sugar couldn't fix. Well, needless to say, I ended up not making applesauce, but apple paste. No flavor except for mush. Hmmmm I wonder if I could use this for an arts and crafts project. . . .

How "Never a dull moment" got started . . .

Well, here I am. I never thought I would do a blog, not because there isn't things to talk about, but I didn't think I could do it. Well, Addi 's (Elizabeth's best friend) mom has been doing one for awhile, and my sister, Deanne (aka my sounding board) asked why I wan't doing one. Plus, as Addi's mom, Jessica says, this is a good way to keep track of how fast your kids grow. And, since I routinely can't remember how old Josiah is, maybe this will help. Therefore, here it is. I figured after ruining homemade applesauce last night, and the frozen pizza for lunch, let's see what else I can make a mess of :) So, stay tuned, there is "never a dull moment" in my life :)
